Karlsson-on-the-Roof is a Swedish fictional character in a children's book series created by author Astrid Lindgren. The cartoon adaptation became widely popular in the USSR in the 1970's.. Currently, Karlsson is still recognized as a national icon in Russia, Sweden, Switzerland etc. As a character, Karlsson is a very short fat and overconfident man with a propeller on his back, who lives in a small house on the roof of an ordinary apartment building, He meets a young boy one day, Smidge, and the two go on adventures together. Karlsson often causes trouble for the young man, but there's always an important lesson learned in the end. Butler Theatre's production of Karlsson is one of many adaptations of this story. The actors were tremendously easy and fun to work with, in addition to their flawlessness on stage .
